Anaconda (pkgs/main channel)

Added Sept 26, 2017 with the release of Anaconda 5.0 and conda 4.3.27, and includes packages built by Anaconda, Inc. with the new compiler stack. The majority of all new Anaconda, Inc. package builds are hosted here. Included in conda's defaults channel as the top priority channel. Anaconda (pkgs/free channel)

Packages built without the new compiler stack. Includes packages built as far back as Fall 2012. The majority of these packages are compatible with the packages in pkgs/main. Included in conda's defaults channel.

Anaconda R (pkgs/r channel)

Microsoft R Open conda packages and Anaconda, Inc.'s R conda packages. This channel is included in conda's defaults channel. When creating new environments, MRO is now chosen as the default R implementation.

MRO -- Microsoft R Open (pkgs/mro channel)

As of Dec. 19, 2017, this is an empty channel. Packages in this channel have been moved to pkgs/mro-archive. New MRO packages are in the pkgs/r channel.

Indexes of commercial packages (pkgs/pro channel)

Now deprecated--though still included in conda's defaults channel. Last package updated Feb. 2017. Includes Anaconda, Inc.'s individual commercial packages, all of which are now open source. (MKL Optimizations, IOPro, Accelerate)

Archive channel (pkgs/archive channel)

Sometimes a package that is released onto one of the other channels has an issue that forces Anaconda, Inc. to remove it from the channel. In these cases, the package is archived to this channel for anyone who still needs it.

Archived MRO (pkgs/mro-archive channel)

An archive of the full contents of the pkgs/mro channel, taken on Dec 12, 2017. Outdated versions of Microsoft's MRO and MRAN.

Indexes of MSYS2 (Windows) packages (pkgs/msys2 channel)

Windows only. Included in conda's defaults channel. Necessary for Anaconda, Inc.'s R conda packages and some others in pkgs/main and pkgs/free. It provides a bash shell, Autotools, revision control systems and the like for building native Windows applications using MinGW-w64 toolchains.

FAQ

What about the 'anaconda' channel on anaconda.org at https://anaconda.org/anaconda?

The Anaconda channel on anaconda.org is a mirror of the packages in pkgs/main. If you are using conda's 'defaults' channel, you do not need the 'anaconda' channel.
Using the 'anaconda' channel alone, however, will not provide everything in 'defaults' as the 'defaults' channel also includes packages from both pkgs/r (all platforms) and pkgs/msys2 (Windows only).
